[ AGE OF MAJORITY now 18 YEARS OLD! ]

Post: # 15575Post Rosy »

Your characters awaken to breaking news on the radio, the TV, and the newspapers! Toro's Arbiter of Justice, Rashn Baran, held an emergency session earlier this morning, with an announcement that will affect the lives of tens of thousands of citizens! The age of majority, including the right to drink, vote, open their own private bank account, and run for office, has been raised from 16 to 18 years old.

Those who have already reached the age of 16 will retain their previously-granted right to vote and to keep control of independent bank accounts, but will have to wait until they reach the new age of majority to drink again or partake in other adult-locked privileges.

The highlights of the meeting include:
  • The Arbiter gave a stirring speech at the 4:15am meeting, invoking the memories of Blake Okabe and Kibe Tantuhm, two teenagers that perished this very year. Okabe was 17, a legal adult, when they entered a rift to the Distortion World (an "Anchor") in an attempt to help protect the region - and tragically perished as a result due to a crucial lack of preparation. Kibe Tantuhm, meanwhile, was a 15-year-old girl just one year away from being declared an adult. During an encounter with Mythical Poachers, Tantuhm attempted to battle the poachers and passed away due to injuries suffered after being bombarded with multiple Explosions.
  • Arbiter Baran spoke of the need to ensure that the future of Toro, their children, would have the time they needed to grow up and mature.
  • They included statistics from studies done on the age of majority around the world, using hard data to back up their arguments to pass the long-neglected bill.
  • By 5:30am, the Arbiter called for a vote, and the law passed 15-1 by those present for the meeting.
