Adamas: The Haven in the Mountains

Post: # 9895Post Tdf88 »

Note: This is not a roleplay topic. This is just a description of the atmosphere of Adamas.

Adamas is small, quiet town in the southern Toro region. It is a mountainous town, with the settlement literally cut into the side of a mountain, though there is an access point to the beach and a pier by the sea which supplies for a healthy fishing economy. Though it is a coastal settlement, Adamas' geographical neighbors are one of the largest mountains in Toro and a large taiga forest. This means Adamas has the lowest temperature average out of all the towns. Summers in Adamas do not get higher than 65 °F (18 °C), and winters can get as low as 10°F ( -12 °C). However, the Dragonfruit trees in Adamas have been specially bred to withstand the long harsh winters, and in the Spring/Summer blooms of beautiful mountain flowers are quite common.

The people of Adamas take pride in the name "The Haven in the Mountains," and they treat the town as such. It is seen as a getaway--an escape from the hustle & bustle of its big-city neighbors Aurelia and Cobalt. Adamas town is the most secluded settlement in Toro. There is no subway system, meaning the only way to get into the town is to fly in or take the lone, long path up into the mountains. As such, Adamas doesn't have a booming tourist industry. Just walking up and down the many staircases in the mountain-town is a workout on its own, deterring many folks, and the beach is generally too cold to relax on anyway. That sends most people running to Cobalt. However, Adamas does see a fair amount of hikers passing through the town, more adventurous honeymooners, physically-fit retirees, and those who find the contrast between the cold mountains and the hot springs bracing. Adamas as a whole tries not to involve itself in political affairs, and Tom ensures to keep it that way. Propaganda posters are not put up in the town, and if they are put up without the mayor's permission, he quickly takes them down. The people of Adamas are encouraged to keep to themselves on matters that may cause conflict or controversy.

Adamas mainly consists of families, however. The people of Adamas move there to settle down and live in the relative peace and security that the town and its mayor offer. The population of Adamas are simple, pleasant, and keep to themselves mostly. That doesn't stop everyone from knowing everything about everyone else though, as that seems to be something common among most small towns. Tom allows the townspeople to regulate themselves, and steps in only when absolutely necessary, such as when serious laws are broken. Adamas does not have an official town hall, so any disputes between the townsfolk, complaints, or suggestions are brought to the Bryant house instead, where Tom and his family offer a warm welcome.

Adamas used to be known as a town for dragon-types, but in recent years it's become more of a town representing harmony between people and pixelmon. Pixelmon can be found all throughout Adamas, and they are members of the town too. They eat at restaurants, interact with the humans, and even visit the hot springs. They have formed their own community in the woods surrounding Adamas, and all of the wild pixelmon in the area are surprisingly docile and love to interact with humans. They are self-regulating, and shun away specific pixelmon that may cause trouble for the town. A big part of why the pixelmon behave like this is because many of them living among the wild ones are those that Tom has trained. They are allowed to keep to themselves and their communities within Adamas, but are obedient to Tom when he needs them. When the need arises, Tom can have them monitor the flow of people coming in and out of the town. New and potentially suspicious faces are identified and monitored from afar, just in case.

Recently, Adamas has taken on a more Johtoese flair, with a new section known as the Sakura District added to the town. More and more tourists are beginning to flock to Adamas to see the new additions, train at the Dojo, relax in the springs, watch the breathtaking sunrise, and hear stories new and old of the town's history. Stories that the older generation of residents would tell might include Rayquaza's descent into the town during the celebration of its construction. More recently, residents will speak of the enormous flying beast that laid waste to the town, but was ultimately by a few brave souls, an army of Magnemite, and an enormous horde of Salamence coming seemingly from nowhere to defend the town. The Salamence were proof to some that Rayquaza still watches over the town.

To sum everything up, Adamas is a place one would move to in order to settle down and get away from the rest of the world. If you like pixelmon, harmony, simple life, and not much else, Adamas is the place for you. If you don't like that, well, they aren't going to change, and they won't get offended if you don't like it.
