Ghosts and Ghost Pokemon

Post: # 9646Post Tdf88 »

We've gotten a few questions about Ghosts, so I figured I'd talk about them a bit.

Ghosts, as in human ghosts, only return when
  • The portals to Giratina and Darkrai's worlds have been opened
  • A person has died either before their time or died with some sort of regret, and was not able to pass on
What this means is that ghosts do not appear in Toro unless otherwise said so by the parameters of an event, such as a Halloween event. These ghosts can speak with players and have memories of their past lives, though it's nearly impossible for them to actually interact with the physical world.

Very rarely, instead of becoming ghosts, people who have died will return as Ghost-Type Pokemon. What determines who comes back as Ghost-types is largely unknown, though a popular myth is that Giratina will sometimes create Ghost-types from human souls.
  • Extremely few Ghost-Type Pokemon were once human. Most are just Pokemon.
  • Ghost-Type Pokemon that were once human do not have any memory of who they were as a person, but will have subconscious feelings towards certain things. For example, if the Pokemon sees someone they loved in a past life, they may be really happy without knowing why. If they see someone they hated from a past life, they may become randomly spiteful and angry at the person without knowing why.
  • Some Ghost-Type Pokemon have the ability to "go into" things, such as hide in an object, a wall, someone's shadow, or a body part. Details on this ability can be found here. With that being said, it is impossible to take over someone's mind, or read someone's mind.
  • Ghost-Type Pokemon will take damage if an item they are hiding in takes damage.
  • Ghost-Type Pokemon cannot force control of anything living. They also have a very difficult time lifting an object while hiding inside an object. It's too much of a strain on them.

If you have any questions about this or anything else, please be sure to ask a member of Lore Team!
