Arceism (Arceus)

Post: # 11414Post Tdf88 »

Note: While reading, it is important to remember that these are the teachings of this religion as they have been passed down. People always have and always will have their own interpretations of these subjects, which means these do not have to be strictly followed if that is something your character would not do. These descriptions are not comprehensive, meaning that players have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to behaving however they’d like as a follower of a religion. Arceism
History: Arceism, or the worship of Arceus, is one of the oldest religions in the world. No one is sure where Arceism began, as its worship predates writing. It has massive following across every major region and has in some way influenced the creation of most major religions.

Beliefs: Traditional Arceism states that before Arceus, there was absolutely nothing. At the very beginning of existence there was only Arceus in its egg. When the egg hatched and Arceus was born, it began to create the universe to its own liking. This is where beliefs deviate. The strictest of Arceus worshippers claim that Arceus created absolutely everything—Life, death, the world, time, dimensions, pixelmon, humans, all at once. In the traditional interpretation, the other legendary pixelmon were created to be guardians or overseers of the things that Arceus had already established, such as time, dimensions, life, reality itself. As world cultures began to blend, a more loose interpretation began to take hold. Nowadays, Arceism usually states that Arceus created the universe and the pixelmon that simply got the ball rolling—Dialga, Palkia, Xerneas, Yveltal, Groudon, Kyogre, etc.

Two major beliefs in Arceism have remained virtually unchanged, however. Arceists believe Giratina was created to either create or oversee the laws of reality. However, Giratina became corrupt, and would constantly prod and change the rules of reality causing widespread destruction and serious stepbacks for the other legendary pixelmon. For these actions, considered near unforgivable and dangerous, Arceus banished Giratina to an inescapable realm: the Distortion World, where it forever waits to receive final judgement. In a similar fashion, Darkrai was sent to a dimension of its own (the Nightmare Realm) to be forever cut-off from the rest of the world after plaguing the world with constant nightmares. However, Darkrai’s banishment was permanent.

When people die, they are sent to Arceus for judgement on where they will spend their time in the afterlife. The honest and good live in Arceus’ version of heaven, the pure evil are sent to the Nightmare Realm where they would be tortured by Darkrai, and those who are not completely lost but must atone for the things they have done are sent to the Distortion World for a set amount of time until they are ready to be judged again.

Place of Worship: Arceism can be practiced anywhere, but most gather in churches. Arceus is worshipped and praised for creating the world and keeping it protected from Giratina and Darkrai, with the hope that they will ascend directly to heaven.
